Tests the endurance and reliability of all major computer components simultaneously
BurnInTest Professional is a software that evaluates your system and produces reports. Results can be stored on the disk, printed, or exported as a graphical image.
BurnInTest from PassMark is a Windows utility that puts all the major hardware sub-systems of a computer to be simultaneously stressed to test the endurance, reliability and stability of the components just as it would work when running multiple applications and devices.
The program exercises heavily the hardware in a PC in a short period of time. This will bring out hidden problems in order to be fixed, so that only after a successful run the computer can be used with a high level of confidence.
BurnInTest is a software more for testers and administrators than for common PC users. The software is capable of verifying hardware components performance: anything from CPU stability at high clock speeds , hard drive data writing, to sound cards, and graphic cards.
Results can be stored on the disk, printed, or exported as a graphical image. Additional features include regular logging, a temperature monitoring interface, the ability to run timed tests, and the ability to display system information such as CPU serial number, CPU speed, and L2 cache size.
BurnInTest is also equipped with serial, parallel, and USB loopback plugs, and offers extensive online help. Advanced features include EMC testing according to ANSI C63.4-1992 standards, RAM testing up to 64GB, and cyclic rebooting. Given society's reliance on computers, the cost of hardware failure can be significant.
BurnInTest rigorously tests PC hardware in the shortest possible time, uncovering intermittent or hidden issues before they become costly failures. It is ideal for computer enthusiasts, hardware manufacturers, systems integrators, and overclockers looking to cost-effectively assess their systems.
Feature Summary of BurnInTest Professional
The Professional version includes additional tests for microphones, webcams, batteries, tape drives, and USB ports (both USB 3.0 and 2.0), as well as Serial and Parallel ports using loopback plugs.
If the software doesn't initially support your specialized hardware, you have the option to create and integrate your own tests. For instance, PassMark has developed plugin tests for touchscreens and keyboards. During the testing process, Burn In Test will track and log the number of test cycles, operations, and errors for each test; it also logs test events such as critical errors, serious errors, warnings, and informational messages. Upon completing the tests, it simply displays a PASS or FAIL outcome.
Temperature monitoring is another critical feature, helping to identify failures caused by overheating. The software monitors and graphically displays CPU, GPU, and disk drive temperatures, providing detailed reports. It can also trigger alerts when temperatures exceed preset thresholds and can halt testing to prevent hardware damage from excessive heat.
BurnInTest Professional vs. the competition
While other tools like Prime95 and MemTest86 focus on specific components (CPU and memory, respectively), BurnInTest Professional provides a more holistic view of system stability. This broader scope makes it invaluable for users who need to perform comprehensive diagnostics across all hardware elements.
Competitors such as HWiNFO and Speccy offer detailed system information but lack the interactive stress testing capabilities that BurnInTest provides. BurnInTest’s interface is designed for both novice users and experts, with straightforward options for automated testing alongside advanced configurations for experienced technicians.
Tools like AIDA64 offer deep system insights and benchmarking, but BurnInTest sets itself apart with its ability to integrate custom tests. This feature is particularly useful for commercial environments where proprietary hardware requires bespoke testing protocols.
While software like Core Temp and GPU-Z specializes in temperature monitoring for specific components, BurnInTest aggregates these functionalities across all critical hardware, enhancing its utility as an all-in-one solution. It also allows for automatic testing halt on reaching high temperature thresholds, a safety feature not universally available in other tools.
